\nAncient Jericho\/Tell es-Sultan<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over 10,000 years ago, one of the oldest fortified towns in the world was built on the lowest area on earth at 250 meters below sea level in the Jordan Rift Valley, 1.5 kilometres to the north of modern Jericho. Ancient Jericho\/Tell es-Sultan was inscribed on the World heritage list in 2023 under criteria (iii) and (iv). The site contains the archaeological deposits of millennia of human activity and includes the adjacent perennial spring of \u2018Ain es-Sultan<\/p>\n

The glorious story of Tell es-Sultan started in the Neolithic period, when humanity shifted to a sedentary communal lifestyle, marking the beginning of modern civilization and humans\u2019 settlements. The stratigraphy of this archaeological site shows twenty-nine phases of habitation which testify to outstanding cultural contexts, namely the Neolithization of the Fertile Crescent and the urbanism era in southern Levant during the Early and Middle Bronze Ages (3400-1550 BC).<\/p>\n
