The “Palestinian Society for Monuments and Historical Sites”, is the national committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). ICOMOS Palestine is an independent civil society Committee, founded in 2002

Aims & Objectives of the Committee:
The aims of the Committee shall be to further the conservation, protection, rehabilitation and enhancement of monuments, groups of buildings and sites, at the national and international levels and in accordance with definitions given in Article 4 of the ICOMOS Statutes, and more specifically:
– To participate in the capacity building of local people working on the conservation, protection and enhancement of the monuments and sites.
– To act towards attaining integration and cooperation among all parties working on monuments and sites.
– To promote scientific research in the field of conservation, protection and enhancement of the monuments and sites.
– To widen the communication with the local community regarding the issues of conservation, protection and enhancement of the monuments and sites.
– To contribute to the protection and conservation of the architectural heritage.
– To promote cooperation with Local, Arab and World organizations working on monuments and sites.
– To work actively towards the implementations of the international directives and recommendations related to the monuments and sites.
الانتساب الى اللجنة:
يمكن للأفراد والمؤسسات الانضمام إلى ايكوموس كأعضاء من خلال الجمعية الفلسطينية للآثار والمواقع التاريخية. تسعى اللجنة إلى جذب خبراء معروفين في مجال عملها، بالإضافة إلى جذب الشباب المحترفين الذين يرغبون في تطوير قدراتهم في مجال عمل اللجنة، وتوفير الفرص المناسبة لهم لتشجيعهم على المشاركة الفعالة في أعمال وأنشطة اللجنة.
The Committee consists of individuals, organizations, students, supporting members, participants, and honorary members residing in Palestine.
– Every person with full legal capacity has the right to join the Committee, provided that he is a worker or specialist in a field closely related to historical and archaeological monuments and sites.
– Any individual or institution concerned with historical and archaeological monuments and sites and working in the field of their protection, rehabilitation, restoration, maintenance or management has the right to be a member of the Committee, provided that it is an official body registered in Palestine.
Article 2: (The Venice Charter- 1964).
The conservation and restoration of monuments must have recourse to all the sciences and techniques which can contribute to the study and safeguarding of the architectural heritage
