Public Statement Regarding the Fire at Al-Hisba Central Vegetable Market
Complex in Al-Bireh Municipality Due to the Israeli Aggression
We express our deep sorrow and profound dismay over the tragic incident witnessed at the Central
Vegetable Market Complex “Al-Hisba” in Al-Bireh Municipality, where this vital center was turned into
ashes and rubble by the Israeli occupation forces. This market, a prominent cultural, social, and
economic hub in the city, has been serving as a center for commercial activity and social life for the
people of Al-Bireh for over fifty years.
The Al-Hisba complex, some parts of which are about 70 years old, reflects the architectural style of
modernity, rationality, and functionality that was common at that time. The complex had intellectual and
political dimensions that mirrored the community’s trends. Al-Bireh’s proximity to Manara Square in
Ramallah, less than 50 meters away, made it a vital economic and social center. The choice of the
location of Al-Hisba was influenced by the presence of Al-Manara Square as a public space that should
be close to the center due to its vital, economic, and social functions.
Al-Hisba was a significant location for many shops and markets that met the needs of the local
community and enhanced social ties among its members. It also served as a venue for cultural activities
and social exchanges, hosting numerous popular events and social gatherings. The Al-Hisba central
vegetable market is located in Al-Hisba at the intersection of Ramallah and Al-Bireh roads, deeply
intertwined with the Palestinian agricultural sector, and plays a pivotal role in the local economy.
The transformation of Al-Hisba into ashes and rubble constitutes an act contrary to the rights of
Palestinians and their cultural and economic assets, and is a serious violation of international law. In the
face of the difficult circumstances our people are enduring, we strongly condemn this aggressive act
aimed at destroying the identity and history of Al-Bireh and the Ramallah Governorate.
We call on the international community and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to stop
these serious violations and protect the cultural heritage of Palestinians. We reaffirm our commitment to
continue our struggle to preserve the status and history of our cultural heritage and to reclaim our
usurped rights in accordance with international laws and ethics.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression against Al-Bireh and neighboring areas, where it invaded
the city and launched attacks in several areas including Al-Manara Square and Al-Hisba Street. This has
resulted in widespread destruction, injuries to many citizens, and the destruction of public and private
property.
We stand resolute in our efforts to preserve our heritage and call on the global community to support our
cause in these challenging times.
بيان للرأي العام بشأن حريق “سوق الخضار المركزي – الحسبة” في ببلدية البيرة بسبب العدوان الإسرائيلي

نشعر بحزن عميق واستياء شديد للحادث المأساوي الذي شهدناه في مجمع سوق الخضار المركزي “الحسبة” في بلدية البيرة، حيث تم تحويل هذا المركز الحيوي إلى رماد وردم على يد قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي.
يعتبر هذا السوق من المواقع الثقافية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية البارزة في المدينة، حيث كان مركزا للنشاط التجاري والحياة الاجتماعية لسكان البيرة على مدار أكثر من خمسين عامًا
وبعض اجزاء المجمع ينوف على ۷۰ عاما، وهو يعكس النمط المعماري الذي كان شائعا في تلك الفترة من حيث الحداثة والعقلانية والوظيفية، المجمع كانت له ابعاده الفكرية والسياسية التي عبرت عن توجهات المجتمع في حينه، في حين ان مدينة البيرة والتي تبعد عن دوار المنارة في رام الله اقل من ٥٠م، فإن اختيار موقع الحسبة تأثر بوجود ميدان المنارة باعتباره فراغا عاما يجب ان يكون قريبا من المركز بسبب وظيفته الحيوية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية
ويعتبر المجمع مكانًا مهما للعديد من المحلات والأسواق التي كانت تلبي احتياجات المجتمع المحلي وتعزز الروابط الاجتماعية بين أفراده، ومكانا للأنشطة الثقافية والتبادل الاجتماعي، شهد فعاليات شعبية ومناسبات اجتماعية عديدة. يقع سوق الحسبة المركزي للخضار على مفترق طرق رام الله والبيرة، وهو متشابك بعمق مع القطاع الزراعي الفلسطيني ويلعب دوراً محورياً في الاقتصاد المحلي.
تحويل الحسبة إلى رماد وردم يمثل عملا يتنافى مع حقوق الفلسطينيين وممتلكاتهم الثقافية والاقتصادية ويعد انتهاكًا جسيما للقانون الدولي. وفي ظل الظروف الصعبة التي يواجهها شعبنا، فإننا ندين بشدة هذا العمل العدواني الذي يهدف إلى تدمير هوية وتاريخ محافظة رام الله والبيرة
ندعو المجتمع الدولي والمؤسسات الحقوقية الدولية إلى التدخل العاجل لوقف هذه الانتهاكات الخطيرة وحماية التراث الثقافي للفلسطينيين. ونجدد التأكيد على استمرار نضالنا من أجل الحفاظ على مكانة وتاريخ موروثنا الثقافي، واستعادة حقوقنا المسلوبة بما يتماشى مع القوانين الدولية والأخلاقيات
وفي الختام، نشير إلى أن الاحتلال الإسرائيلي واصل عدوانه على البيرة والمناطق المجاورة، حيث اقتحم المدينة وشن هجمات في عدة مناطق منها دوار المنارة وشارع الحسبة وغيرها، مما أسفر عن حدوث دمار واسع النطاق وإصابة العديد من المواطنين وتدمير الممتلكات العامة والخاصة
